JBY Academy is a new creative arts and academic enrichment program; designed with African-American children in mind. As well as, all homeschool children. The program is based in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania (Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, Nazareth). However, for parents outside of the area; who wish to register their child for the program, we are no hosting the program exclusively online, via ZOOM video conferencing. This is a decision made to keep children engaged, enriched and connected; during these uncertain times of social distancing, due to the health crisis.
We will meetup on ZOOM every Monday at 2 pm. EST, for a fun, creative and interactive activity, lead by JBY Academy founder, Mahogany Reynolds; a homeschool educator, and her son, DJ, an aspiring filmmaker and musician.
JBY Academy was born out of a calling to create a unique program for children of color to express themselves creatively. And, for them to learn and celebrate the rich history, contributions, and accomplishments of African-Americans. The program also teaches children African studies with enriching lessons that go beyond the narrow schism of slavery; that is often taught in traditional school books, but exposes the child to the vast history of the great continent of Africa, and it's contributions to the world we live in.
JBY Academy is a faith-based program, but we welcome all families, so long as they agree to be in alignment with the 5 Core Values of Just Be You Performing Arts. The program is open to all families who share a common interest in enhancing a child's exposure and knowledge of African-American history and culture.
There are no membership dues. And our new cyber meetups on ZOOM are free. And, unlike most homeschool co-ops/groups in the area, there is no rigid or demanding volunteering requirements. Whenever we meetup in person, parents have the option to drop-off or stay and participate.
Parents are asked to give a love offering/suggested contribution to help cover the expense of running the program, which is free for kids grades 3rd to 5th; ages 8 to 12.
Parents who are interested in participating on our new cyber meetup can do so via ZOOM. See details below!

The goal and vision of JBY Academy is to develop a program that is culturally rich and empowering. There is a serious void in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania; for a program that offers what JBY Academy strives to provide the community at large. This is especially true in the homeschool co-op community; that fails to fully incorporate activities, programs, and lessons, that regularly teach homeschoolers about the contributions African-Americans and the continent of Africa has made to the world.
JBY Academy aims to provide a service; primarily in the homeschool community, for African-American families who often feel their culture is not fully included in the curriculum offered by most homeschool co-ops, or homeschool hybrid schools in Lehigh Valley.
JBY Academy will also feature contemporary, mainstream activities, in the performing arts, visual arts, public speaking, fine arts. Our goal for the near future, is to host a family event, where students can showcase all they have learned throughout the year, during a festive celebration and talent showcase. If we can't do this in person, we stream it on ZOOM!

JBY Academy, while having a love of Africa and African-American culture, is all-inclusive. The program is open to all families with a shared interest in exploring the dynamic contributions African-Americans have made to the arts, sciences, music, and much more!
